Dear Parents and Students, Welcome back for the 2015-2016 School Year! This time of year is always exciting for teachers, students and parents. Please join me in welcoming the teachers and staff new to Roosevelt- Betsy Hanson-Kindergarten, Chrisann Lamb- 1st, Marcie Rush- 1st, Devon Robison- 2nd, Mary Jane Barker- 2nd, Angie Douthit- 3rd, Lanie Spiegle- 3rd, Amanda Ingham- Special Education, Cynthia Eby- Library, Jessica Utz- Music, Teri Riley- Art, and Kay Murphy- Teacher Assistant. Open House will be held Tuesday, August 11 from 4:00-6:00 pm. This is the time for parents and students to meet their teachers, Roosevelt staff, drop off school supplies, pay on lunch accounts, check in medications, and determine how students will arrive and get home from school each day. Parent Orientation Sessions will be held Thursday, August 20 at 5:00, 5:30, and 6:00 pm. These sessions will provide specific information from the Principal, Social Worker and individual classroom teachers. There will be three sessions to accommodate families with more than one child. We are collecting a one-time PTO fee of $5.00 per family to provide every class with treats for our school-wide parties/celebrations and help with other student activities. Parents may still send additional items for their child’s class if they wish, but we will provide the main item for each party. We appreciate your support of this fund. Thank you again to our parents and students for such successful fundraisers last year. We hope to build our Parent/Teacher Organization this year. Our dedicated teachers will continue to focus on specific learning needs and improving academic achievement of all students. We are here for the kids! I ask you to join us as part of your childs educational team. Research shows when parents are involved in childrens schools and education, results often include higher grades and standardized test scores, improved behavior at home and school, and better social skills. Our mission is to ensure all students are college, career and citizen ready. I am honored to be a part of your childs education and Miami Public Schools. Please feel free to contact me with your ideas. The Miami Public Schools website www.miami.k12.ok.us also provides important information and updates. Communication between you, your child’s teacher and school, is critical to their success! Best wishes for a GREAT School Year, Melissa Bekemeier, Principal
