  Miami Public Schools Enrichment Foundation

The goal of the foundation, founded in 1988, is to encourage excellence in the Miami Public Schools.  The foundation does so by awarding grants to teachers and schools who use the funds for special projects or programs which are innovative and enriching for the students.

School Connect APP!

Miami Public Schools is now working with School Connect, an Oklahoma-based, mobile application developer for K-12 school systems and institutions, to launch a free mobile app for the district.

Superintendent, Loretta Robinson, said the app will be available for download in both the Apple and Android app stores.

School Connect's app development and hosting services are free to the school district and there will be no download charges for mobile users.

The company has received much attention since launching its first app in October 2011 for Norman Public Schools. That app was a Top 25 free education app at the Apple store within 24 hours of its launch.

Robinson said, "The Miami Public School District is excited about the School Connect partnership as it will enhance school-to-parent and school-to-community communications."

The superintendent added that the app will be financially supported by school-friendly sponsors and that it will feature:

Push messaging from both the district and school site levels. This will be another way for community members to get school closing notification.

Navigate to each school using GPS mapping.

View the live school calendar or in a printable view.

Link to the PowerSchool Parent

Tap screens for email and phone for district staff.

Multiple language options, including Spanish.

Easy access to lunch menus, athletic information, and much more.

Nick Migliorino, School Connect's president, said the company is excited about working with the local school district and its other partners across the nation to transform school communications.

"People rely on their mobile devices for everything - contact, news, messaging, scheduling - so schools serious about community engagement are serious about robust mobile platforms," Migliorino said, noting that robust platforms are typically cost-prohibitive for school entities to develop and maintain.

"This makes the free School Connect app high value to its partners and we are proud to partner with this local district. Together, we are taking school communication, transparency and accountability to a much higher level."

Our community partner, Integris Health, has been  charged with completing community needs assessments  in each of the areas they have a presence.  Because  we are so fortunate to have Integris Baptist Regional  here in Miami, our Community Wellness Committee was asked to assist Integris in the distribution of the surveys (to adults 18-over) throughout Ottawa County. The data collected from the surveys will be compiled and analyzed to determine the 5 most significant issues impacting the health of our county.  Integris will then work with the community coalitions to develop a community health improvement plan for Ottawa County that Integris Baptist Regional will implement to focus on and address those health concerns identified by the community.

Below, you will find a link that will connect you to the needs assessment survey for Ottawa County.  Please take a few minutes to not only complete the survey, but to pass this link on to others in your contact list that live in the Ottawa County area.  It is important that we work together to distribute this survey to as many applicable people as possible-think friends, relatives, neighbors, co-workers, church members, club/organization members,…  The more individuals that we are able to get to complete the survey, the more confident we can be that the results are truly representative of our population, and that the health improvement plan that is developed will benefit the greatest number of people within our community.

At the conclusion of the survey, you will be redirected to an Integris website that will allow you to click on a link to access data specific to Ottawa County.  Information on the site will continue to be updated as survey data is collected, as the health improvement plan is developed, and beyond…
